Internet Speed Test

How this tool works
This speed test measures your real download throughput by pulling a fixed 20 MB file from a Cloudflare edge server and dividing the transferred bits by elapsed seconds. The gauge updates live as chunks arrive, so you can watch your connection ramp up. Other tools like Speedtest.net do the same thing with their own test servers, then average several runs; we trade that averaging for a transparent, single real transfer you can watch happen. Numbers will still vary with Wi-Fi congestion, distance from the router, and other devices on the network, so test over Ethernet and at different times for a fair comparison.
Features
- Live speedometer gauge that updates as data flows
- Real data transfer from a nearby CDN edge, not a simulated number
- Megabit result with clear status messages
- Works on mobile and desktop
Why use this speed test?
It gives you an honest reading of your download throughput without installing anything. Example: your video calls keep freezing, and the test shows 6 Mbps on Wi-Fi but 95 Mbps over Ethernet, so you know the problem is your wireless setup, not your plan.
How to get accurate results
Plug in with ethernet if you can, close big downloads, and run the test two or three times at different hours. Wi-Fi congestion and peak-time ISP throttling are the biggest sources of bad numbers.
What your number means
- Under 25 Mbps, one or two HD streams, struggles in a busy household
- 25–100 Mbps, comfortable for most families
- 100–500 Mbps, smooth 4K, big downloads, remote work
- 1 Gbps and up, fiber territory
Speed tests show megabits, divide by 8 for the megabytes your downloads show. More detail: why your speed test may disagree with real downloads.
FAQ
Why is my speed lower than my plan?
Wi-Fi distance, old routers, other devices, and peak-hour congestion all eat into real world speed. Test over ethernet for the truest number.
Is this speed test accurate?
It measures real data transfer from a nearby CDN edge, a fair proxy, though no single test is perfect on congested Wi-Fi.
What upload speed do I need?
For video calls 3–5 Mbps up is fine; heavy uploaders want 20 Mbps or more.
